Our Story

Yellow City Fibers was created from a love of making—of slowing down, working with your hands, and finding joy in fiber arts. What began as a passion for yarn, stitching, and teaching has grown into a creative studio where people can gather, learn new skills, and feel inspired.

At the heart of the shop is a deep appreciation for both traditional and modern fiber arts. From knitting and needlepoint to weaving and spinning, we believe these crafts connect us—to history, to creativity, and to each other.

This space was designed to be more than a store. It’s a studio, a classroom, and a community. Whether you’re picking up your first skein of yarn or working on an advanced project, you’ll find support, encouragement, and inspiration here.

A Family Craft

Yellow City Fibers is also a true family endeavor. While the fiber arts fill the shelves, craftsmanship extends beyond yarn.

My husband brings a unique element to the shop through his woodworking. He handcrafts beautiful, functional pieces including looms, loom accessories, and wooden games. He also restores spinning wheels and looms, giving new life to tools with history and character. Each piece reflects the same care, patience, and attention to detail that we value in every craft we support.

Together, we’ve created a space where fiber and wood, tradition and creativity, all come together.

Our Mission

We believe creativity should be accessible, welcoming, and inspiring. Our goal is to provide high-quality materials, meaningful classes, and a space where people can gather, learn, and create.

Whether you’re here to shop, take a class, or simply be surrounded by beautiful materials—we’re so glad you’re here.

Mona Rae – Owner & Fiber Artist

I started Yellow City Fibers from a love of making and a desire to create a space where people could slow down, learn something new, and feel inspired. Fiber arts have always been more than just a hobby for me—they’re a way to connect, create, and share something meaningful.

With a background in teaching, I’m especially passionate about helping others build confidence in their skills, whether they’re picking up yarn for the first time or working on more advanced projects. I love seeing people discover what they’re capable of and watching creativity come to life.

Spinning yarn is where I find the most peace and creativity—it’s a process that keeps both my hands and mind engaged, and it reminds me why I love fiber arts so much.

In the shop, you’ll find a mix of hand-dyed yarns, thoughtfully chosen materials, and classes designed to be both approachable and inspiring. My goal is to create a space that feels welcoming, encouraging, and full of possibility.

Floyd – Woodworker & Craftsman

Floyd brings a unique and meaningful element to Yellow City Fibers through his woodworking. He handcrafts looms, loom accessories, and wooden games using a variety of beautiful, exotic woods—each piece created with both function and artistry in mind.

His work includes traditional games like Wahoo, thoughtfully crafted to be both durable and visually striking. Each piece highlights the natural character of the wood, making every item one of a kind.

Floyd also restores spinning wheels and looms, carefully bringing new life to pieces with history and character. Each restoration reflects patience, skill, and a deep respect for the craftsmanship that came before.

His work adds a beautiful balance to the studio—where fiber and wood come together, and traditional tools continue to be used and appreciated for generations.
